Hi, I’m Kristen - founder, CEO, owner, and head baker at Mak’s. My love for baking delicious and beautiful things came early in life thanks to my granny. I would watch her create buttercream roses without thinking about it. The simple, plain white, homemade icing tasted better than any other color! There were coconut and chocolate cream pies for every holiday with homemade whipped cream piped so high you'd need to cut through it with a knife, yet so smooth that it would melt in your mouth. Christmas cookies decorated with such love and sprinkles everywhere!

There were so many things she taught me without even knowing she was teaching. The most wonderful part of watching her was why she did what she did...it was solely because she loved us and one of her ways of showing love was through food. The phrase 'baked with love' rang true. She cooked as well as she baked and she certainly passed a love for good food along to me, too, but there's something about watching the reaction people have when they bite into something sweet. It's love. Love was kind of how Mak's came along. Formerly called Sweet Street Bakery (because we lived on a road called Sweet Street), I started this business out of necessity.

I found myself at a crossroads between suddenly needing to find a job to support my kids and I, but also one that would afford me the flexibility to still be a full time mom. My kids grew and eventually were all in school. I could have gone back to further my education or re-enter the workforce, but my entrepreneurial self wouldn't allow it! I married my star-crossed lover in 2020. After the pandemic hit, our plans for the wedding of our dreams were cancelled. We took off to Tennessee with our kids, where our daughter married us in the heart of the mountains. Together, we have a beautiful, very blended family. Our nine kids take up every bit of our time outside of the shop! Life is beautiful chaos everywhere you turn! Although some days are crazy, nonstop, pandemonium we love our life.

To me, there's nothing more exciting than working with a bride and groom to create their dream wedding cake display that tastes as delightful as it looks, or crafting the sweetest baby shower cake and matching cookies to welcome a new life into the world. I adore making sweet things for big momentous occasions as well as everyday "just because" goodies. It would be my pleasure to work with you, your family, or business to create the sweetest desserts for all of life's celebrations!

In 2020, we had our biggest, most profitable year of business, yet! That called for a major expansion! In July of 2021, we opened our storefront in Blanchester, Ohio! Since we opened our doors, we sold out almost every single day! When we opened, we received an outpouring of love and support from our tiny little village…and the surrounding areas!

After the storefront had been open for about 2 years, I decided to pivot the business once again. I felt a calling back to my roots, where my business originally started - in the kitchen of my home. But don’t you worry - Mak’s isn’t going anywhere! We are still fulfilling orders every single day for charcuterie and sugar! In addition to taking orders, we are also expanding our operations for maker’s markets and events!
